Some kitchen stars are born, while some are made. Our very own Chef Steffen opens up on his humble beginnings which eventually lead him to LUXE.
Having established himself as the Head Chef, it meant long, grueling hours in the kitchen, and even days and nights of blood, sweat, and tears on the job—over the years, he has worked for various five-star hotels in Germany (Kempinski Hotel Dresden, Hyatt Hotel, Relais & Chateaux “Schlosshotel Lerbach” in Bergisch Gladbach, Osman30) and Malta (Kempinski Gozo). All of which certainly paid off when he landed a rewarding position as the Executive Chef in Marriott Hotel – Cologne.
On Realising the Australian dream
To understand what “crossover kitchen” really meant, and of course, the weather and the beaches, Chef Steffen pursued his dreams of coming to Australia. “I have a very supportive wife and so we took the risk and moved with our daughter to Sydney where I started working in the former Lowenbrau at The Rocks, The Cut, and The Ananas Restaurant,” Chef Steffen shares.
He eventually became Food Ambassador and Head Chef for Jamie Oliver Italian. It didn’t stop there, he still felt the need to take his culinary skills to a new level. And thus, LUXE was born.
On the Birth of LUXE
After many years of training, cooking, food preparations and mastering flavour combinations, Chef Steffen was lead to another realisation. He reveals, “I needed to use my talent and knowledge to create something I love, something owned by me, great products, great taste, and amazing service.”

On Why He Does it All
Since Chef Steffen’s early years, he has always been fascinated by the great pleasure food brings to people and strived to achieve this through his own innovative food creations. For him, “It creates harmony and even brings back memories. I also knew this job could bring me around the world one day”.
Through the years, he has also developed his passion for healthy cooking, saying “It was then that I became very health conscious, and gave basic cooking classes that include food for the children. I think educating kids and parents about these things is very important for a healthy future”.
Presently, Chef Steffen remains a Food Ambassador for Jamie Oliver, works for Thr1ve, and is co-owner and Chef at LUXE Catering and Events. Also, on weekends, Chef Steffen hosts lifestyle cooking classes where menus can be created to compliment to your events’ theme and budget as well as catering to any dietary requirements.
